Daylight Savings Time is ending
Remember to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night.
Preschool Fall Festival, Wed., Oct. 30 - volunteers needed
Come enjoy time with our Preschoolers as they celebrate all the fun of the season. Kids might be in costumes and will definitely enjoy some special crafts, songs, activities and fun! The festival is from 8:45am-11:15am in the Preschool. If you would like to bring some Halloween candy/treats to share please be sure there are no peanuts/peanut butter (due to allergy). There are about 10 students in class. Talk to Mrs. Donna if you have questions & let her know you're coming. Thank you.
Joy in Quinn's confirmation!
We celebrate the confirmation of Quinn W., son of Andi & Brian, brother of August, and grandson of Bob & Deanna B. On Saturday, Oct. 26, Quinn confessed his faith at a service here at Our Saviour. We all rejoice in this public confession, which has its roots in the faith which God himself created in Quinn's Baptism.
Thanks to so many volunteers
Sincere thanks to all who helped make our first Sunday service with our new entrances run smoothly - it was great to see so many smiling helpers! Thanks to all who have signed up to help on future Sundays (sign-up sheets are on the "Volunteers" board in the hallway by mailboxes). Thank you to Patty M. for organizing and recruiting all these people. Thanks to Roena I. for making reminder calls to these volunteers. Thank you to the Properties Team for prep work done to get ready for the new entrances. Thank you to our Food Pantry team who continues to serve and innovate so that this mercy work continues during construction. Thank you to our congregation for flexibility and support. Thanks be to God for our church family!
Farewell reception - Sunday, Nov. 3
Please plan to attend Pastor Mark's final Sunday with our congregation and stay for a farewell reception honoring Pastor and Lauren (basement Fellowship Hall after the service). We pray: Lord Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the sheep, thank You for our time with Pastor Mark and Lauren. Strengthen him as a faithful undershepherd of Your care for our congregation and for Trinity-Mission. Support Lauren as she supports her husband. Keep them both faithful and true to Your Word. Keep us grateful to Pastor Mark for his truthful preaching and teaching, his fellowship in the Gospel, and his leadership of our congregation. Bless Pastor Mark and Lauren and continue to make them blessings to the people of Your kingdom. Keep us all devoted to the faith, and at the last, take us all to the Church Triumphant above. We pray in Your name. Amen.
‘Donuts with Dads’ guests are needed – Mon, Nov. 4 (8:45 – 10am)
Our Preschool is having a special program, treating students and their dads, grandpas, etc. to donuts. Some of the kids don’t have a family member who can attend (due to work, etc.) so men in our congregation are encouraged to come as a guest and get paired with a child. What a great way to support a little one and get to know some of the family members! You'll be there for chapel, music and breakfast. Let our teacher, Donna B., know if you will attend – we don’t want any child to feel left out.
Guest pastor on Sun., Nov. 10
Rev. Phil Cook, director of LUMA (Lutheran Urban Mission Agency) in KCMO will lead our service on Nov. 10 in the sanctuary. During Bible Class time, he will be in the Fellowship Hall to present to us about the work of LUMA.
Lutheran High musical (Mary Poppins) on Friday, Nov. 15
Join your friends from our congregation at the students' performance of Mary Poppins. The musical starts at 7pm and there is a spaghetti dinner (free-will offering) from 5:30-6:30pm. Tickets for the show can be purchased at the door (12411 Wornall Rd, KCMO 64145). Look for a sign-up sheet and please mark if you're interested in carpooling to this fun event, supporting the students of Lutheran High. Talk to Mary N. if you have questions.
Orphan Grain Train (OGT) - hurricane relief
On Monday, Oct. 14, OGT sent a 5,300-gallon water tanker truck to Calvary Church in Asheville NC to assist with lack of running water due to damaged pipes. It will help with showers & flushing toilets for volunteers and local families. The tanker will stay and be refilled locally in NC for continuous use. Additionally, New England Branch OGT loaded 1,800 pounds of food, hygiene & medical supplies, blankets, tools, disaster cleaning buckets, beds, refrigerators and other items for Christian Appalachian Project in Kentucky. The Branch also donated $5,000 for OGT’s national disaster relief efforts. These are just a couple of the many storm-related missions of OGT. Thrivent is offering matching funds for donations through Nov. 30 – learn more at www.ogt.org and also check www.lcms.org for ongoing updates about how our Synod is supporting people in the many states affected by recent hurricanes. To God be the glory for these generous volunteers, donors and all the people helping in the disaster areas – and may those who are suffering feel relief and support through Jesus’ saving love.
Prayer for students
Our congregation has students in preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, college and graduate school. Let's all lift them up in prayer: Lord God, bless students with wisdom and patience. Guide them as they study and face exams mid-semester and beyond. Help them to do their best work, enjoy learning, and make healthy friendships. Thank you for sending Jesus as our great Teacher and Savior. In His name, Amen.
3rd quarter/Fall newsletter available
Our Saviour's quarterly newsletter was emailed to members on October 7. Printed copies are available on the "welcome" table in the Narthex. Grab a copy and check out the photos and news about our congregation. We are blessed!
Construction / renovation update:
Phase 1 of the project is underway! Demolition & excavation around west driveway entrance, upper parking and stone retaining wall started on Oct. 22. New concrete will be poured (making a level, west entrance with no need for a ramp or steps). A concrete retaining wall will be built. The sidewalk from the parking lot to the north tower door will be replaced (eliminating the outdoor step at this door). It's anticipated that excavation will take about 3 weeks and constructing the new/replacement concrete will last through sometime in January. All of the work is being done with the desire to improve our facility and honor our Lord so that our place of worship and ministry can continue to impact our community. After demolition, we'll see a construction fence at the west entrance, to keep the public out and safe. A storage container will be placed in our parking lot when demolition has concluded. Our contractor carries "builders risk insurance" during the duration of our project. Please pray for the safety of the workers and everyone who travels in our parking lot and on adjacent sidewalks.
Sunday morning info (during construction period)
- Worship service: in the sanctuary at 9am.
- Fellowship (including coffee/treats): in the basement after the service.

- 12 spaces are in a lot on north side of KU Endowment Building. Access these from Rainbow, directly into the lot.
- 15 spaces are in a lot on south side of Wendy's. Use caution parking here since you'll need to cross Rainbow on foot.
Sunday morning doors during construction (available before and after church & Bible Class); volunteers will be at the doors to help as you arrive for church
- Preschool door (available by approx. 8:15am, through the entire service, and up to Sunday School time). Wheelchairs (& volunteers to push) are ready for anyone needing help to get down the long, basement hallway. If needed, the stair glides are used to get up to the sanctuary level (volunteers help operate them until 9am and then again after the service).
- Northeast door (east side of church, near large parking lot) - available approx. 8:30-9am. Two internal flights of stairs here take you to the sanctuary (entering through door near pulpit).
- Playground door (west side of church) - available approx. 8:30-9am. Used by people parking at Wendy's (go through playground gate on Rainbow Blvd & follow sidewalk to this door).
Blanket collection for Care Beyond the Boulevard - through Sun., Nov. 24
We hosted a speaker from Care Beyond the Boulevard ("CBB") and learned that the people they serve need blankets. Please bring gently-used blankets to church and they will be donated to CBB's healthcare outreach program here in KC. Thrift stores can be a good source (twin, full, queen). Your donations stay local and are a mercy ministry that shows care for people in need. Put blankets on the upper shelf in the coat hall. Talk to Jerry C. if you have questions. Thank you to everyone who has donated already. Sharol from CBB has picked up what was donated already and she was overwhelmed - saying the blankets will be very appreciated by those who use them!
Food Pantry - volunteers needed
Our food pantry is serving on Saturday mornings (only) for several more months. Please keep everyone who receives food in your prayers. Could you spare some time from 9 - 11:15am to help out on any Saturday? Contact Deanna B. for more info. Helping with the pantry is a way to show the love of Jesus to our community. It's also fun to spend time with the volunteer team.
